Lakka Holidays Lakka holidays, the most northern resort in Paxos and the second largest of the three towns on the island. Although it is not as picturesque as Loggos, the quaint fishing village, or Gaios, the cosmopolitan capital, Lakka is an extremely friendly and unpretentious town, and due to its' proximity on the northern tip of the island, close to Corfu, extremely popular with day-trippers.
Holidays in Lakka - The bustling and friendly port in the north of Paxos Lakka sits in a pretty horseshoe-shaped bay, and its' very busy harbour accommodates numerous ferries, boats and yachts, creating a lively bustling atmosphere. The little town sees a lot of traffic from nearby Corfu, and Lakka recently has seen an increase in the usual holiday facilities, such as tavernas and shops, to cater for the large influx of day-trippers. The town of Lakka itself is a maze of narrow alleyways, with a central Venetian square home to many shops and restaurants, and a number of music bars. The low houses of the town of Lakka are fairly distinctive, with tiles painted in shades of reds, brown and indigo, which stand out against the lovely backdrop of silvery olive groves and cypress trees. Lakka has two beaches made up of the smooth white pebbles typically found all over Paxos, which sit at the western end of the bay - Kanoni, a small pebbly beach, and Harami, popular with families as it shelves gently into the sea, with sand underfoot. Further east from Lakka are many other beaches, such as Arkoudaki and Orkos, and the most popular, Monodendri and Glyfada. A dive-school sits in the harbour at Lakka, and the bay is frequently scattered with sail-boats and windsurfers. The choice of accommodation for those staying in Lakka ranges from self-catering apartments and studios in and around the town, to secluded private houses and villas nestled in the hillsides.
Holidays in Lakka - A great place for scenic walks and hikes around the resort Lakka holidays are very popular with walkers, Lakka has the best areas on Paxos for walking, with plenty of good tracks leading inland or west along the coastline. The prolific olive groves hide numerous scenic trails and paths that meander through the countryside. The whole island of Paxos is a favourite with botanists and nature-lovers, and spring, especially, is a wonderful time to visit, when the hills are covered with wildflowers. The east coast of Paxos offers a selection of small and secluded coves, accessible by boat, whilst the west coast is home to some stunning majestic cliffs, composed of limestone and hiding spectacular sea-caves. Many tourists take boat-trips along the west coast (private boat access is prohibited), with the area around Erimitis Bay being the most popular.
