See life in miniature at Altos de Chavon
If you’re looking for things to do in La Romana you’ll love Altos de Chavon, an amazing little model town designed by Roberto Copa in the early ‘80s. He based his mini-town on the pretty villages of Italy and Spain, and the whole place is redolent of medieval Europe. There’s also an arts centre to explore with crafts and art works on sale, from handmade jewellery to textiles, ceramics to tapestry work.

Music, theatre and archaeology rolled into one!
Also at Altos de Chavon, there’s a massive open air amphitheatre with 5000 seats where they hold regular festivals, classical music concerts, theatre performances and gigs. Recent stars that have played there are the legendary Carlos Santana, and Gloria Estefan of 1980s Miami Sound Machine fame.

Sun, sea, sand and watersports
The climate’s excellent at La Romana so there are masses of fun water and beach-based outdoor things to do if you’re feeling lively. There are miles and miles of gorgeous beaches – try La Minitas, Catalina and Bayahibe, each of which is a little Caribbean paradise. Go sea fishing or even fish the beautiful local rivers. Go snorkelling and enjoy the delights of the colourful sea life. Ride a horse or hire a 4X4 to explore exotic jungle trails. You can even play a mean game of golf. Alternatively, chuck your towel on the sand and don’t move a muscle ‘til sunset!

Shopping
La Romana itself has a marvellous outdoor market stuffed with local delicacies as well as all the usual interesting bits and bobs you’d expect at any good local market. If you fancy a poke around for an exotic bargain, potter round the many small, interesting shops on offer.
