La Palma Weather The Canary Islands remain a perennial favourite with visitors due to a warm year round climate and a wonderful sunshine record. La Palma enjoys high temperatures, yet the heat is manageable due to incoming fresh Atlantic breezes which ensure perfect water sports conditions and comfortable sunbathing. Lying in the cool Canary current and the North East trade winds, the island has two contrasting weather systems. The south is hot and dry while in the north it tends to receive more rain as can be seen in uniquely lush green meadows and forests. The annual rainfall is slightly higher than the other Canary Islands although during the peak summer months it remains hot and dry throughout with little wet weather.
Weather in La Palma - Constant sunshine All along the coast the climate is stable with temperature highs of up to 30c due to the influx of hot dry air from the Sahara from June to August. Sea temperatures are warm and in general underwater currents light, making swimming safe for all. Elsewhere, inland temperatures can drop at altitude which can feel chilly during outbreaks of cloud cover. Summer months boast a good sunshine record with up to 10 hours of daily sunshine and evenings pleasantly warm.
La Palma Weather - A warm winter destination La Palma receives 5 to 6 hours of sunshine per day during the autumn and winter months with temperatures rarely dropping below 20c in coastal regions. This makes it such a popular year round destination with visitors particularly those who enjoy more energetic pursuits like hiking and climbing. Due to its geographical make up, there are several microclimates on La Palma, mainly in the high altitude volcanic region, where the weather is more changeable during the winter. November receives the most rainfall but temperatures remain mild and comfortable.
