Weather in Kwazulu-Natai - Vast province, with diverse conditions
Kwazulu-Natai lies on the south-eastern region of South Africa, with this vast province experiencing a diverse climate and range of conditions, thanks to its differing geographic areas. The climate is generally subtropical, with the inland areas seeing cooler temperatures, and sometimes snow in the winter.
 
Kwazulu-Natai Weather - Subtropical climate in coastal city of Durban
With the region encompassing both sandy beaches and lofty mountain ranges, conditions and temperatures do vary in the Kwazulu-Natal province. Durban, the major city and perhaps the popular destination, enjoys a sub-tropical climate and a dry warm summer season occurring in our winter months, with daytime highs of 26C - 27C, and the warm coastal waters of the Indian Ocean reaching 27C. There is 100mm - 150mm of rainfall each month at this time, but at least 6 hours of sunshine every day, and the highest levels of humidity of the year. May to September sees drier cooler weather in Durban, with highs of 22C - 24C and 20mm - 50mm of monthly rain. There is no humidity at this time, and the sea temperature hovers around 22C - 23C. 
 
Weather in Kwazulu-Natai - Inland mountains see cooler weather, even snow
Inland in the Kwazulu-Natal province, there are more moderate temperatures but more volatile weather. The Drakensberg Mountains, where the elevation can reach over 3,000m, see summer highs of 28C and a rainy season running from December to February. During this time, daily thunderstorms are common, as are periods of prolonged rainfall, and conditions can be very changeable. Winters in the region see dry warm weather, with daytime highs of around 20C, and much cooler temperatures at night, with the mountains sometimes seeing snow.
