Pontoons and Beaches
Although Montenegro has plenty of beaches, Kotor is more famous for its pontoons, which are charming bays where you can sunbathe and enjoy the views. Nearby beaches include Morinj, Risan and the ever popular Bajova Kula Beach. The pontoons and beaches in this area were made for relaxing in the sun and swimming in the crystal clear waters.
Restaurants
The hospitality of the Kotor locals is well known and you will notice this as soon as your step into the local restaurants. Dishes include Mediterranean cuisine and the freshest of seafood. Hungarian dishes such as goulash are also a speciality and there many cafes serving excellent pizzas and great Italian food in Kotor.
Nightlife
There are many bars and nightclubs in Kotor especially within the old town. The bars and nightclubs become the social focus once evening draws in and they are very lively. However if you prefer something a little more low key then there are traditional little open air taverns with live music and a great selection of Montenegrin wines and beers.
Sightseeing
There is a great selection of sightseeing activities in Kotor. Strolling around the old town itself is a pleasure and St Triphon’s Cathedral is a picture opportunity not to be missed. St Ivan’s fortress walls offer some spectacular views over Kotor bay and a visit to the islands of Sveti Djordje and Gospa od Skrpijela are well worth the short journey.
Day Trips
There are a number of excursions and day trips available from Kotor. Picturesque towns such as Perast and Risan with their own beautiful bays are worth visiting, and cruising around tranquil Boka Bay in the sunshine is a great way to spend an afternoon. Other day trips should include journeys to nearby resorts such as Budvar, Petrovac and Tivot, which are easily accessible from Kotor.
