Kololi Beach is endlessly long, laid back and scenic. It is popular with holiday-makers because of its golden sands, cafes and bars, and nearby gift and handicraft market stalls. The water can have strong currents, but swimming is safe when the lifeguards indicate so. Beaches in this area have suffered sea erosion in the past which can make them narrow, however Gambian authorities have carried out extensive coastal defence work in recent years, to ensure the utmost safety and enjoyment for holiday visitors. Within Kololi town there is a bustling local market and plenty of restaurants to choose from along the main road. The resort also offers lively nightlife thanks to a selection of bars and nightclubs serving cold beers and tropical cocktails into the early hours.
Kololi holidays - head south for more remote beaches
Kololi beach and Kololi town have plenty to offer any family or couple on holiday. However by venturing south of Kololi towards Bijilo beach, you will begin to see beaches becoming less populated and the wildlife more interesting. Visit the beaches at Sanyang and Gunjur to really get away from it all. Bijilo Forest Park makes a refreshing change from lazing on the beach. Here you’ll see tropical vegetation, ancient vine-covered trees, monkeys, and an amazing array of birds. Look out for hawks, ring-necked parakeets, babblers and long-tailed sunbirds.
