Kolimbari Weather

Weather in Kolimbari - Hot and sunny in western Crete 

The small fishing village of Kolimbari lies on the north-west coast of Crete, and experiences a hot dry climate, with plenty of sunshine most of the year. Located just 25km east of the town of Chania, the resort, like others in the west, experiences slightly hotter weather than those in the east, and in general enjoys a typically-Mediterranean climate with highs of up to 30C in the height of the summer.

 

Kolimbari enjoys a longer-than-average tourist season that runs from April to October.  Spring sees lovely warm weather in the resort, with conditions ideal for walking, hiking and bird-watching in the countryside or along the coast. Temperatures hover around 20C in April, the start of the holiday season, and the town sees up to 8 hours of sunshine each day. The weather is generally dry, with around 30mm of rainfall, and conditions are great for sightseeing and touring the whole of the western side of the island, especially the Venetian town of Chania, which lies close by. May heats up to 24C, with 10 hours of sunshine, and by June the resort is seeing highs of 28C, and an increasing level of humidity. Summers boast ideal beach weather in Kolimbari, and in the peak season months of July and August the temperatures rise to 30C, and there is a constant 12 hours of sunshine, with the waters off the coast reaching 25C - great for swimming and sunbathing. Rainfall is virtually non-existent in the summer, with just a few millimeters falling each month.          

 

The weather continues into September, with highs of 27C and 10 hours of sunshine, only dropping to 23C in October, the end of the season. There is increased rainfall in this month, an average of 79mm, which rises to 137mm in the wettest month of January; however temperatures remain mild throughout the winter, just dropping to 14C.
