Kenya weather Located in the Southern hemisphere, Kenya is the direct opposite of European seasons with the summer season running from December through March and winter from July to August. Generally, the hottest time is in February and March and the coldest months are July and August. Due to the reduction of temperature with altitude, temperatures over much of Kenya are subtropical or temperate and almost European in nature. Only the coastal lowlands incorporating Mombasa experience the constant high temperatures and humidity you might expect from an African country. However, regular daytime sea breezes and longer hours of sunshine mean that the heat doesn't become oppressive.
Weather in Kenya As a basic rule, Kenya experiences two, long dry seasons broken by rainy seasons between March and May and November and December. The downpours sometimes experienced during rainy months can be quite spectacular with impressive electric storms rolling across the savannah. The wettest area of Kenya is the Lake Victoria basin to the west although coastal regions can experience high annual rainfall - up to 41 inches per year in some places. After the rains, the country reaps the benefits and previously dry landscapes and waterways spring into life. The temperature generally remains warm in the wet season although mountain areas can become very cold.
Kenya weather Generally high temperatures make the Kenyan coast the perfect destination for a beach holiday. Mombasa, for example, enjoys an average maximum temperature of 30 degrees with lows of 22 degrees year round. With stunning beaches, and long sunny days the Kenyan coast is the ideal holiday destination all year long. Those wishing to travel inland for safaris and sightseeing might want to pack warmer clothing as temperatures drop in higher regions. Outside the rainy seasons you can expect to enjoy dry, hot days giving you the excuse to make the most of the wonderful white sand beaches. Just remember that April and May see the greatest amount of rainfall on the coast so avoid these months if sunbathing ranks high on your itinerary.
