Kefalas is in the west of Crete, just two miles from the town of Vamos, a 15-minute drive from the beaches of Georgioupolis and Almirida, and around forty minutes from historic Chania Town, Chania airport and the port of Souda. The resort will suit those looking for an attractive Crete village close to transport connections, a selection of fine beaches and a good base for inland exploration. Kefalas is a big village in a striking location on a ridge. The name Kefalas means highest, and a break here enjoys privileged views from this the highest village on the Apokoranos Peninsular; to the sea on one side and to the other the dramatic White Mountains.This is a quiet, unspoilt village with plenty of traditional architecture and country churches along with basic amenities and a modest selection of tavernas, many in the village square. Neighbouring Vamos has far more in the way of shops and entertainment.

Excellent sandy beaches are found at three relatively low-key nearby resorts;  Almirida has two beaches, with shallow water safe for children and a windsurfing school, Geogioupolis has an immense 6-mile long stretch of sand and shingle and Kalives has an impressive long stretch of superb soft sand gently sloping into clear water. Many more excellent beaches and resorts are nearby and with a little effort it is quite easy to find really quiet coves and there are stretches of totally unspoilt wild rocky coastline and cliffs. Chania town, a 30-minute drive, is a great asset for Kefalas visitors with its Old Town; an interesting picturesque neighbourhood of narrow paved lanes, flower-decked houses, tastefully renovated buildings, attractive gardens, walls, castles, churches, monasteries, ancient sites, art galleries and museums, with plenty of atmosphere until late at night.
