Kato Daratso Things to Do

Countryside
Surrounded by fertile farmland, the country setting for the village is tranquil and peaceful, and ideal for exploring on foot or by bike. Trails and paths lead through the olive groves and along the coast, and take in hidden villages and crumbling monasteries.

Beaches
Kalamaki is the local beach, with Agi Apostoli close by, and the popular beach at Platanias a short distance away. Crete's dramatic north-west coast, ideal for tranquil relaxation, is known for its tiny rocky coves and hidden beaches, some only accessible by boat.

Sports
Various accommodation in the area offer swimming pools, tennis courts, mini-golf, table-tennis and billiards, with cycling and horse-riding available nearby. Water sports such as windsurfing, waterskiing, pedalos, scuba-diving, sailing and canoeing can be enjoyed at Platanias.

Boat Trips
A great way to see the beauty of the coastline, boat trips depart from Chania and head out along the north-west shoreline, and include excursions to smaller ports, and snorkelling and barbeque trips.

Dining & Entertainment
The local tavernas of Kato Daratso offer a taste of the real Greece, with traditional fare using lots of fresh produce as well as the catch of the day, whilst the bars provide the evening's entertainment in this quiet village in the hillside.

Chania Town
Close proximity to this fascinating town means interesting day trips, with tours of the Venetian harbour, a visit to the Naval Museum and the chance to try a waterfront taverna or a spot of shopping recommended.
