Kalo Chorio Weather

The town of Kalo Chorio lies 10 km east of Agios Nikolaos in north-eastern Crete, and enjoys a typically-Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winter weather. The peak season experiences highs of 28C, and up to 12 hours of daily sunshine, meaning ideal conditions for a relaxing beach holiday.

 

Thanks to the island's southerly location in the Mediterranean, the resort of Kalo Chorio experiences a long holiday season that runs from April to October. Early season sees warm weather, with April highs of 19C, and 8 hours of sun, and in general conditions are dry, only receiving 35mm of rainfall during the month. These spring days are ideal for walking, hiking, and cycling, especially as the Cretan countryside is in full bloom and the landscape is lush and green, with the resort being pleasantly uncrowded. Temperatures heat up in May, with daytime highs of 23C and a rising night-time temperature of 14C, accompanied by 10 hours of daily sunshine, and by June Kalo Chorio is seeing highs of 26C and as much as 12 hours of sun each day. Water temperatures at this time reach 22C, and the night-time highs hover around 18C. Peak season months of July and August bask in 28C weather, a constant 12 hours of sunshine and rising humidity. The sea is warm during these months, reaching 24C - 25C, meaning great conditions for swimming, water sports and boat trips along the north coast. Rainfall is virtually non-existent in the summer, with less than 5mm of rain falling each month.   

 

September remains hot and sunny, with highs of 26C and 10 hours of sun and only in October does the weather start to cool down, dropping to 22C, with 10 hours of sunshine. The rainfall does increase at this time, with 72mm seen in October, and as much as 137mm in the wettest month of January. Winter holidays are mild in Kalo Chorio, with the temperature dropping to just 14C.
