Kalives Weather

Located in the north-west coast of the island, 15km from Chania, the small village of Kalives offers a relaxing base for a holiday in Crete, and enjoys a typically-Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Chania experiences slightly higher temperatures than the easterly resorts on the island, Kalives boasts a longer than average tourist season, and summer highs of 30C.  

 

Although March sees highs of 17C and as much as 6 hours of sun each day, the holiday season in Kalives starts in April, when the resort enjoys temperatures of 20C, and 8 hours of daily sunshine. These spring days are relatively dry, with April receiving 32mm of rain during the month, meaning great conditions for touring and sightseeing, and enjoying outdoor activities such as tennis, cycling and walking in the countryside whilst the hillsides are in bloom, and before the weather gets too hot. May sees highs of 24C, and the sunshine hours increase to 10 each day and by June, Kalives is basking in 28C temperatures. Humidity starts to rise at this time, peaking in July and August when the highs reach 30C, and there is a constant 12 hours of daily sunshine. Rainfall is practically non-existent during the peak summer period, with less than 4mm each month, and the night-time temperatures hover around 21C. Water temperatures reach their hottest in July and August, when the sea is at 25C - ideal for swimming and boat trips.          

 

September remains hot, with highs of 27C, although there is a little more rain - a monthly average of 19mm, which rises to 84mm in October, when the temperature drops to 23C. There's still plenty of sunshine during these autumn months - an average of 6 - 10 hours each day - and warm evening temperatures of 16C - 19C. Winter sees mild weather, with highs of 14C even in the coolest month of January, but the wettest conditions in Kalives, seeing 75mm - 140mm of monthly rain.
