The busy port of Izmir lies on the eastern shoreline of the Aegean Sea, and enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and short mild winters. A historic city with plenty to see and do, from touring ancient sights to relaxing on long sandy beaches, Izmir boasts a long summer holiday season that runs from April to October, and sees an average temperature of 28C, with at least 8 hours of sunshine each day.

Izmir Weather - Hot summer days on the Aegean Coast
Thanks to over 300 days of sunshine per year, the city boasts an enviable climate, with plenty of warm weather and dry conditions all season long. April and May see daytime temperatures of 18C - 23C, 8 - 10 hours of daily sunshine, and a slight chance of showers, but limited rainfall. As sea temperatures only reach 18C at this time, spring is a great time for hiking, biking, walking holidays and sightseeing, with the sunny weather and lack of humidity creating great conditions for outdoor activities. June in Izmir heats up to 25C, with 13 hours of daily sunshine, and the days begin to get more humid. Sea temperatures in the Aegean reach 22C, making swimming and water sports possible along the coast, and the beaches around the city become busy as the season progresses. The peak season months of July and August experience high temperatures of 29C - 32C paired with 14 hours of blazing sunshine, and there is a marked increase in humidity, although the coastal breezes blowing do help to temper the high heat a little and add some relief. There is virtually no rainfall during the summer, and any precipitation comes in the form of occasional light showers. Night-time temperatures reach 20C in July and August, with these warm evenings ideal for touring, alfresco dining and strolling around the city taking in the sights and sounds. By September, the humidity begins to decrease, and Izmir still enjoys wonderful weather, with highs of 27C - 29C and 11 hours of sunshine each day.
