Beaches

Blue Flag beaches around Istron offer a calm and peaceful base on the Bay of Mirello, ideal for those looking to relax in unspoilt surroundings on a beautiful stretch coastline along Crete. Choose from Golden Beach, Karavosasi and Church Beach, or head to one of the hidden coves along the shoreline.

Water Sports

Windsurfing is a popular sport here, thanks to the summer breezes that blow down from the mainland, and the beach also offers facilities for banana boat rides, pedalos, water skiing and canoeing, as well as a scuba-diving centre.

There are a number of hotels in Istron, some offering swimming pools, tennis courts, gyms, aerobics classes, volleyball games, table tennis and billiards.

Walking & Hiking

The resort is set amongst charming scenery, nestled in the hillsides that boast olive groves and Mediterranean foliage. This region is ideal for exploring on foot, with plenty of tiny villages, crumbling monasteries and ancient sites to discover, as Istron and the surrounding area is rich in archaeological history, and there are also guided botanical walks available.

Archaeological Sites

Istron lies on the ancient town of Istrona, which still boasts some remains, and there are many other sites to visit, such as Vrokastro and Gournia, as well as the island's famous Minoan palaces - Knossos and Phaestos.

Agios Nikolaos

The bustling town of Agios Nikolaos is an ideal day trip for a change of pace from the sleepy town, and offers all manner of shopping and dining, as well as waterfront cafes by the famous 'bottomless' lake, and its magnificent Archaeological Museum.

Day Trips

Istron is well-placed on the north coast to visit many of Crete's famous towns, such as Elounda, Heraklion and Rethymnon, with other excursions include Faneromeni Monastery, the traditional village of Kritsa, the Lassithi Plateau, Sitia, and the stunning palm-fringed beach of Vai on the east of the island.
