Skiing in Isola 2000
Isola 2000, is one of the major ski resorts within the Southern Alps, and is located above the Cote D’Azur, bordering Italy. It is a purpose built resort, established in 1971, and sits 17 km above the charming medieval village of Isola. Isola 2000 has one of the best snow records in France, due to its’ altitude, and this together with the warm Mediterranean climate, breathtaking views and laid-back Italian atmosphere provide visitors with a wonderful environment to ski in. Isola 2000 is a favourite with weekend skiers from the surrounding areas, and the modern design and convenience of the resort makes it a popular choice for families.

Skiing in Isola 2000 – The Slopes
The ski resort of Isola is located at 2,000m, with the 23 lifts taking skiers to a height of 2,610m. The skiing covers 120km of pistes, and takes in the areas of St.Saveur, Pelevos and Levant. Isola 2000 has a total of 47 runs, comprising 14 green, 18 blue, 16 red and 5 black. Beginners in Isola 2000 have some of the best runs in the area to learn and practice on, a huge stretch of gentle terrain running for 5km alongside the resort. Once more confident, the main area in Genisserie is accessed by high speed quads and the sunny, south facing slopes provide mainly above tree-line skiing. Some of the most challenging black runs are to be found in the St. Saveur area, and the resort offers off-piste skiing run by the ski-school during the busiest season, with heli-skiing available across the border in Italy, for the adventurous. The extensive lift system transports 20,000 skiers around Isola 2000 per hour, and the resort has invested in 160 snow cannons to ensure that there is never a lack of snow. Snowboarders are welcome in Isola 2000 and the resort has a terrain park and a half-pipe.

Skiing in Isola 2000 – The Après-ski
The many original bars and restaurants of Isola 2000 are housed within the major complex, adjacent to the slopes and linked by indoor walkways. The general après-ski atmosphere here is fairly low key, with the resort home to 20 restaurants and 10 bars, and the hotels providing some interesting nightlife. Isola 2000 offers other activities for visitors such as ice-skating, tobogganing, sleigh-rides, ice-driving and ice go-karting and swimming (in Isola village). The village itself is charming, with cobbled streets and some beautiful churches, and above the ski resort another interesting excursion is Vinadio, with its’ thermal baths and mature centre.
