Indian Visa Application - Important Updates

Wednesday, 09 July 2008
holidays in goaChanges to the Indian Visa Application process have recently been made meaning that the process of issuing visas has now been outsourced by the Indian high Commission to V.F Services (UK) Ltd (VFS).

For those requiring an Indian Visa, it is strongly recommended to visit the Indian High Commission website before starting any application, as there are certain procedures to be aware of. Most importantly, travellers should ensure that their passport is valid for 6 months from their intended return date and all visa forms must now be completed online at the India Visa Application CentreAny hand written application forms will not be accepted.

It should also be noted that there are currently three ways in which to apply for a visa; in person, by post or via a visa agency, which although is more expensive, will save both time and effort. Travellers applying by post or in person should be aware that visa applications are now dealt with on a regional basis which means application must be taken or posted to the relevant offices. For addresses of the relevant visa applications centres, please take a minute to visit our Goa visa information page.

It has been reported that VFS is experiencing some problems with their online payment system; therefore it is strongly advised to ensure that you print or download your application first, whilst also making a note of your web reference number before attempting to pay online.

Visa applications can only be made up to 3 months before departure. It is therefore advised to apply at least 6 weeks the expected departure date as the application process can take between 2-3 weeks.
