Hersonissos Holidays – Large busy popular resort with plenty of nightlife
Hersonissos is an established busy and cosmopolitan beach and party resort 17 miles east of the capital Heraklion, 23 miles north-west of Agios Nikolaos and 16 miles from Heraklion airport. Hersonissos is on a broad bay on the north coast of Crete. The resort is popular with those looking for a lively resort with plenty of shops and tavernas, but not as busy or noisy as full-on Malian. Accommodation in the outlying areas of Hersonissos is quieter than the centre. The resort is really a mix of several beaches, traditional villages and modern development. It’s a busy place with shops open until late. The centre for nightlife is the attractive harbour area where there are lots of tavernas and bars close to the water’s edge.

Holidays in Hersonissos – Beaches and good watersports
There are three beaches at Hersonissos and a break here can also explore good sandy beaches at Malia and close neighbour, Stalis. Hersonissos is popular with watersports enthusiasts, with some of the best facilities on this coast. Less developed and larger beaches can be found to the west of the main resort. The nightlife is busy with plenty of clubs for those who want to party until late, though it still remains quieter than Malia.

Holidays to Hersonissos – Villages, boat trips and ancient sites
Take a look at the old village of Hersonissos, inland from the main resort, for a much quieter atmosphere. Visit the picturesque traditional villages of Piskopiano and Koutouloufari during your holiday here for views of the coast and quiet tavernas. Holidays in Hersonissos can include a stroll onto the headland to the east and the monastery of Agios Georgios. Hersonissos has popular boat trips to other beaches and small islands including the island of Dia. Popular excursions include the ancient Minoan palace at Knossos, Heraklion’s archaeological museum, Samaria Gorge, the island of Spinalonga and even a boat trip to the island of Santorini. Frequent buses run to Agios Nikolaos and Heraklion.
