Weather in Heraklion - Hot sunny weather in Crete's capital city
The largest city on the island, and the capital of Crete, Heraklion is located on the north coast, and experiences a typically-Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winters. With an average daytime temperature of 27C, and as much as 12 hours of daily sunshine, Heraklion attracts many visitors, keen to explore the historical sights of the region, as well as bask on the wonderful beaches of the area.

Spring sees warm weather, when the city experiences highs of 15C - 19C in March and April, 6 - 8 hours of sunshine, and 40mm - 90mm of monthly rain. Conditions are ideal for exploring and sightseeing, and the pleasant temperatures mean visitors can tour the region before the intense heat of the summer months arrives. Night-time temperatures in the spring reach 11C, and the city sees no humidity at this time. May heats up to 23C, and experiences 10 hours of sun, and in the height of the summer the temperatures rise to 28C, with a constant 12 hours of sunshine in Heraklion. Conditions in the city remain extremely dry, with just 8mm of monthly rain falling between June and August, and the water temperature in the bay reaches 25C in these peak summer months. July sees the highest humidity, with most visitors choosing to explore the region's beaches at this time, instead of strolling around the city streets, although the winds blowing from the north do help to temper the heat.

September is still very hot, seeing highs of 26C and 10 hours of sun, and October remains very warm, with average daytime temperatures reaching 22C. Heraklion experiences wetter weather during this month, when 95mm of rain falls and from November to December, the city sees a monthly average of between 80mm - 120mm of rainfall. Temperatures are mild, however, with even the coolest months of January and February seeing highs of 14C.
