Holidays in Gzira
Gzira, located just between Sliema and Msida, is a suburban town sitting on the Marsamxett Harbour, ideally positioned to visit both the tourist resorts of the north east coast and the vibrant capital city, Valletta. A long seafront promontory begins in Gzira and runs for many kilometers through the popular resorts of Sliema and St. Julian’s.

Holidays in Gzira – Next to Sliema with its’ great shops and restaurants
Sitting on one of Vallettas’ two natural harbours, Marsamxett, Gzira has some stunning views across the sea towards the capital, with its’ fortified city walls and stunning skyline. Gzira, meaning ‘island’, is named for the adjacent Manoel Island, reached by a causeway from the town, and housing the grand Fort Manoel, which was built by the Knights in the 18th century. Within walking distance along the coastal promenade is Sliema, one of the main coastal resorts on Malta, home to large upmarket hotels, waterfront cafes and a small rocky beach. Once an original fishing village and a desirable summer destination for wealthy Valletta residents, Sliema is now known as an upscale resort with extensive shopping and great bars and restaurants.

Holidays in Gzira – Ideally placed for trips to Valletta
The seafront promenade beginning in Gzira and running through the resorts of Sliema and St. Julian’s is an excellent place for the traditional ‘passegiata’ – the evening stroll – and offers an endless choice of bars and restaurants. St. Julian’s offers the best nightlife on Malta, with plenty of pubs, clubs and music bars found in Paceville. There are numerous boat trips available in the area, and the harbour, with its’ yacht marina, gets very busy, with many cruise boats and ferries departing from here. Highly recommended is the Grand Harbour Cruise and the Underwater Cruise, both departing from Sliema. The capital city, Valletta, with its’ charming Baroque architecture and historical buildings is just minutes away, offering plenty of quaint shops and colourful bars, and fascinating museums and galleries.
