Local Towns & Villages
The main town, Propriano, has a bustling marina with a natural harbour, and plenty to do, other smaller coastal towns include Campomoro and Tizzano, whilst inland, Sartene is home to a well-preserved historic town centre, and Olmeto boasts many craft traditions and famous breathtaking views. Sleepy villages such as Aullene and Ste Lucie de Tallano offer true charm and character, and the hot springs at Baracci and Caldene provide the chance for thermal relaxation and rejuvenation.
History
The island's history is evident throughout the area, with the archaeological site of Filitosa a main attraction, home to prehistoric menhirs and a museum, whilst visitors at Easter can experience the re-enactment of the Crucifixion in the ancient town of Sartene.
Beaches
There are a host of stunning beaches to visit on the Gulf of Valinco, from sweeping sandy bays to hidden inlets. Some of the best sandy beaches include Cappiciolo, Porto Pollo, Campomoro and Portigliolo, and many of the bays and coves are natural and unspoilt, without facilities, but perfect for quiet sunbathing.
Water Sports
Sporting activities available include jet-skiing, waterskiing, windsurfing, kayaking, and catamaran and dinghy sailing. Boat rides and fishing trips are also available.
Scuba-Diving
The west coast of Corsica is known as one of the best places to scuba-dive, with a number of interesting sites along the rocky coastline, including the famous 'cathedrals' off the coast of Porto Pollo.
Sports
The area has many tennis courts, and the island's one golf course is located in Bonifacio in the south. Thrill-seekers can try their hand at quad-biking, rock-climbing, canyoning, parachute jumping and microlite flying.
Walking & Hiking
The Gulf of Valinco is one of the most scenic on the island, and boasts plenty of footpaths and woodland trails inland to follow, as well as stunning coastal trails.
Biking
Mountain bikes can be rented in Propriano, with cycling an ideal way to get out and explore, with the mountainous terrain of the region home to some great routes with spectacular views.
Horse Riding
Horse riding is another excellent way to explore, with the many scenic bridleways and paths leading through the beautiful Corsican countryside. Rides are available for all levels, and range from short treks to day-long expeditions.
Wine Tasting
Corsica is known for its excellent vintages, with various vineyards and wineries offering wine-tastings, and Sartene known as one of the best-producing areas on the island.
