It has been announced by the World Economic Forum that Greece is 24th amongst 124 nations in the overall rankings for the Travel and Tourism Competitive Index. The report suggests Greece has much strength as a holiday destination, although in competitiveness still ranks behind some of its closest members. Close neighbours, Spain, Cyprus and Portugal finished above Greece in 15th, 20th and 22nd place respectively.
According to the World Economic Forum, amongst Greece’s weaknesses is the fact that it has a rigid legislative framework that discourages foreign investments (ranking 57th worldwide), restrictions on foreign nationals gaining ownership and difficulties in being granted a visa. Other criticisms included Greece’s poor travel infrastructure, considered to be far worse than that of other European destinations. In terms of trained staff, Greece also fell behind (ranking 55th worldwide).
Despite its shortcomings in terms of legislation, Greece holidays still prove to be incredibly popular amongst UK tourists. In fact, some of its major strengths include excellent levels of hygiene (ranked 3rd worldwide), high levels of security (ranked 18th worldwide), and cultural resources (ranked 23rd worldwide).
Those considering a Greek holiday will also be encouraged by the fact that the Greeks are considered to have a positive attitude towards tourists where they ranked 23rd worldwide. Greece holidays still remain a popular choice for British tourists and offer considerable variety and beauty. From rugged mountains and fertile valleys to sun bleached unspoilt islands.
