Gozo Things to do
Diving
Diving in Gozo is an exhilarating experience and the Island has some of the most exciting dive locations in the world. The famous Azure Window can be found on Gozo along with the Blue Hole, a 25m deep vertical chimney that connects with the sea through a submerged archway. Gozo is home to many excellent dive schools such as the Atlantis Diving centre or the Blue Waters Dive Cove.
Snorkelling
If you don’t fancy going too deep then try snorkelling on Gozo. The warm Mediterranean waters are perfect for snorkelling and the many caves along the coastline at Dwerja provide exciting snorkelling locations. The only qualifications you need are the ability to swim, equipment can usually be hired from hotels and water sports centres.
Historical Sights
Dating back over 6000 years, there is no shortage of historical sights on Gozo. Gozo is dotted with temples and monuments that bear testament to its ancient history and there are many museums and archeological sites on the Island. Visit the Cathedral Museum or the Archaeology Museum for a real step back in time. The megalithic temples of Ggantija near Marsalforn date back to 3600 and are magnificent examples of ancient construction.
Beaches
If all you fancy doing is relaxing in the sun, then the beaches on Gozo will be a dream. Ramla Bay is one of the pretties sandy beaches on Gozo. The beach is very busy during the summer months and is very popular with water sports enthusiasts. For a more secluded cove, try the shingle beach Wied-il-Ghasri at Marsalforn, it is also a great place for swimming and snorkelling.
Comino
Take a trip to the small Island of Comino located between Gozo and Malta. Previously known as home to pirates and smugglers, Comino is now more popular with bikini-clad tourists seeking the famous Blue Lagoon. Classified as a nature reserve the island is peaceful and unspoiled and boasts only one hotel. The Comino Hotel operates its own ferry to Gozo several times a day and is well worth the trip.
