Gouves Weather

Located 18km east from the capital, Heraklion, the resort of Gouves is situated on the north coast of Crete, and offers a relaxed base, with a typically Mediterranean climate. With average daytime highs of 27C in the peak summer months, together with an abundance of sunshine, Gouves offers ideal beach weather, and benefits from a long tourist season that spans April to October.

 

Spring sees lovely warm weather in Gouves, with March experiencing average daytime highs of 15C and 6 hours of sun, and April, the beginning of the holiday season, reaching 19C, with as many as 8 hours of daily sunshine. This early season weather is generally dry, seeing 80mm of rain in March and 38mm in April. May heats up to 22C, with 10 hours of sun, and by June the average daytime high is 26C. Rainfall is extremely limited, and the summer months receive less than 10mm each from June to September. There's plenty of sunshine, as much as 12 hours each day, and a very warm night-time temperature reaching 21C, with most visitors spending the balmy evenings outside having dinner or drinks. Water temperatures rise to 25C in July and August, and the humidity level remains high throughout the summer months. Like most of the north coast resorts, Gouves is affected by the strong winds that blow down from the mainland; however these do help to temper the high heat of the summer.  

 

The hot weather continues into autumn, with September and October seeing highs of 25C and 22C respectively, and between 7 - 10 hours of sunshine. Rainfall does increase in October, with 80mm falling, and by December and January, the wettest months; Gouves sees 130mm - 1500mm. The winters remain mild, with daytime highs of 14C even in the coolest months of January and February.
