Gouves Holidays – Developing destination for couples and families
Gouves visitors will enjoy the facilities of a fairly large developing seaside tourist resort with excellent beaches while being close to quiet traditional villages inland. Several other coast resorts nearby can complement a stay here. Gouves is on the north coast of Crete, 12 miles east of the capital Heraklion and the airport. Couples and families on holiday here have plenty of tavernas, shops, bars and clubs, but without the really lively nightlife of neighbours like Hersonissos.

Gouves beach is well-organised, has a selection of watersports and is a favourite with sunbathers and swimmers. The resort has a small marina for boats. Visitors can also enjoy the sandy beaches at neighbouring resorts like Kokkini Hani and Amnisos. Another important neighbour is the busy resort of Hersonisos, which outdoes Gouves for shops and nightlife should Gouves seem too tame. Agios Nikolaos, another famous resort, is just 11 miles away. Holidays in Gouves are more relaxed than at both these popular lively Crete resorts.

Gouves Holidays – Plenty of attractions inland 
Visitors here can easily find tranquillity by exploring the fertile fields and rolling hills inland, with pretty traditional villages, ancient monuments and two charming monasteries. Two miles inland the original village of Gouves sits on the hillside of Mount Ederi and overlooks the resort which is officially known as Kato Gouves (Lower Gouves). The old village has a few tavernas for a change from the main resort centre below. Nearby attractions are the archaeological sites in Kokkini Hani and Amnisos, the monastery of Saint John, and Skotino Cave, one of the most impressive in Crete. Popular excursions include the ancient sites at Knossos, Heraklion archaeological museum, Samaria Gorge, the island of Spinalonga and even a boat trip to the island of Santorini. Frequent buses run to Agios Nikolaos and Heraklion.
