Holidays in Gharb Gharb, the most westerly village on the island of Gozo, is a sleepy rural destination, and ideally suited for couples and those in search of an isolated peaceful retreat. Its’ name derives from the Arabic word for ‘west’, and its’ location on the island means that Gharb sees some spectacular sunsets. Gharb, the second oldest village on Gozo, has a historic village centre, with many of the houses having the traditional hand-carved stone balconies of the area. The village square is typically Gozitan, featuring on many postcards, and is home to a few bars and restaurants, a couple of interesting museums and the local parish church, which is highly regarded for its’ architectural design and dates back to the 17th century. Gharb also boasts one of the most important shrines on the island, at Ta’Pinu Sanctuary, which still attracts large numbers of pilgrims today.

The natural phenomenon, the Inland Sea (a great spot for scuba-diving), is close by, and the nearest sandy beach to Gharb is Ramla, just 15 minutes away.
