Gerani Things to Do

Beaches
The main feature of Gerani is its long pebble Blue Flag beach, which is generally clean and uncrowded. With convenient facilities such as sun beds and umbrellas, the beach is a perfect spot for some peaceful relaxation, with more action to be found along the coast at Platanias.

Water Sports & Activities
Water sports are available at the beach and from the marina at the resort, with more activities to be found in Platanias, just 2km along the coast. Some of the hotels offer swimming pools, tennis courts, mini golf, table tennis and beach volleyball.

Walking & Hiking
The unspoilt countryside inland in Gerani is great for scenic walks, with the higher village of Pano Gerani up in the mountains good for hiking, as well as the neighbouring mountain villages of Modi and Loutraki.

Cycling & Horse Riding
Touring the region inland by bike or on horseback is a great way to experience the beauty of the countryside in Crete, rich with verdant olive groves and lush citrus trees, with the spring and autumn weather offering the best weather conditions for outdoor activities.

Ancient & Historical Sites
The prehistoric Gerani Caves of the town are an attraction, whilst the ancient city of Modi is just a kilometre away, and there are many monasteries and churches to visit nearby. The famous sites of Knossos and Phaestos are an easy day trip.

Chania
Just 12km from the town, the bustling Chania is a short drive or bus ride, and offers a change of pace with its lively harbour front and fascinating city centre, ideal for sightseeing and diverse shopping, dining and nightlife.
