The area is famous for its Botanical Gardens, designed by Professor Arturo Hruska and featuring over 500 species of plants from every continent, from Alpine flowers, reeds and iris, to bamboo, tropical succulents and aquatic flowers.

The former estate of Gabriele D'Annunzio, an eccentric poet who lived here in the early 1900's, is now a major tourist attraction in Gardone Riviera. Guided tours are available around the fascinating house, gardens and war museum, which boast flamboyant touches and bizarre features.
