Funchal Weather – Subtropical climate
Funchal enjoys a subtropical climate with an average year-round temperature of 22C. Although it is quite milder than the rest of Portugal, temperatures will rarely fall below 16C. The climate of Funchal is influenced by its mountainous surroundings meaning that whilst in Funchal you could be soaking up the sun on the beach, any visitors to the inland areas could simultaneously be covered by clouds and mist. As a year-round holiday destination, Funchal rarely experiences any extremes of temperature. The summers are hot with temperatures reaching the mid-twenties and are only slightly lower in the winter season.

Weather in Funchal – Summer sunshine
Holidays in Madeira are ideal during the summer season which falls from July to September. At this time, Funchal can experience temperatures ranging from 21C and 24C. The best time for swimming is in late summer when the waters are at their warmest, whilst the coolest time is March when temperatures can drop to 16C.

Funchal Weather – Winter weather is mild
Rainfall in Madeira can be expected from October through to May, although generally it is only experienced in the north meaning Funchal is often unaffected. However, March is the wettest month and July the most humid. The winter falls from December to March with temperatures typically staying close to between 15C and 20C. However, throughout the whole year it is a good time to holiday in Madeira and only during the first few months of the year are you likely to experience some periods of showers, wind and rain.
