Cheap holidays to Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

Fuerteventura Holidays
Fuerteventura, the second largest of the Canary Islands, sits just 100km from the coast of Africa, and is blessed with a warm, dry climate all year round, with the annual temperature averaging out at a glorious 20 degrees. Relatively undiscovered, Fuerteventura boasts some of the best beaches in the Canaries, with over 150 spread out over its’ 340km of coastline, and the island is a fascinating mix of endless white sands, volcanic landscapes and palm trees. Although Fuerteventura attracts those in search of a slow pace and idyllic beaches to unwind on, the island is one of the best places in the world for windsurfing, playing host to the World Windsurfing Championships every year.

Holidays to Fuerteventura – Endless unspoilt beaches
The busiest resort on Fuerteventura is Corralejo, on the north coast. With a town beach right next to the bustling harbour, and streets filled with shops, bars and restaurants, Corralejo offers something for everyone, with plenty of watersports available, and a wide variety of ferry trips along the coast. Just outside the resort are the protected sand dunes, and a much larger secluded beach. Further east is the popular family-friendly resort of Caleta de Fuste, much quieter, but with a wealth of facilities around its’ wide horseshoe-shaped beach. The best beaches on Fuerteventura can be found in the south, in the Jandia peninsula, a nature reserve where a 20km stretch of white sand is flanked by sand dunes. Much more suited to couples, the resorts of the south, Costa Calma and Morro Jable, offer an unhurried pace of life, and an endless array of unspoilt beaches to relax on.

Holidays to Fuerteventura – Great for windsurfing
The atmosphere on Fuerteventura is fairly peaceful, and the nightlife is very low-key, with the exception of Corralejo, with its’ English bars and late-night hotspots. Most resorts on the island have bars playing live music, and the entertainment, including cabarets and folk dancing, is centred around the hotels. All types of international food can be found on Fuerteventura, from Mexican to Greek, and local specialities, including wonderful fresh fish, can be sampled in the many Spanish and Canarian restaurants. As mentioned, Fuerteventura is a haven for watersports, with windsurfing hugely popular, especially along the east coast, and scuba-diving, water-skiing, and surfing are all available. Day trips by ferry to Lanzarote are popular from Fuerteventura, and the island is easily explored by car.
