France is not usually regarded as a destination for package holidays by air with most UK holiday visitors arriving by car but Corsica is an exception. The island is located in the Mediterranean, north of Sardinia, and closer to the mainland of Italy than France. The Mediterranean coast of France is not served by charter flights from the UK but Corsica has four airports at Calvi, Bastia, Figari and Ajaccio.

Compared with the holiday resorts of the French coast Corsica is remarkably under developed. It is a land of rugged mountains with a coastline dotted with coves and sandy, often deserted, beaches. Like all regions of France, it has its own gastronomic specialities including local charcuterie, wild boar, cheeses and seafood. The Italian influence means that excellent Pasta and Pizza dishes are available.
