Foca Things To Do

Beaches
The beach at Foca has been awarded the blue flag, showing its quality and cleanliness of the sea. This is a very tranquil beach that lies within the Gulf of Izmir, on the west coast of Turkey. Perfect location for a relaxing holiday – top up your tan, put your feet up, read a book, you are on well earnt break!
Islands
Foca is faced by several small islands, including Incir and Orak, the Sirens' Rocks of Homer's Odyssey fame. If you are lucky you might even see a Mediterranean Monk Seal. This is a rare type of seal and the Foca town was named after it! Take a day out on a boat and make the most of the glorious summer sun and turquoise waves.

Food
This region of Turkey is well known for its culinary delights! It is heavily influenced by both the Mediterranean and Anatolian cultures. A holiday to Foca will mean fresh fish, meatballs, saffron, tomatoes and amazing salads! Turkey is renowned for sweet honey pastries, and the local speciality pastry is Boyoz. There are some fantastic restaurants in Foca. Either head into the town or wander along the seafront for fresh fish dishes.
Markets
Foca is well known for its bustling local markets. You can buy fresh produce from here, as well as souvenirs or gifts for your friends. If you are looking for shopping centres or boutiques, head to Izmir.
Days Out
Why not go on a day trip from Foca and explore some of the history of Turkey. Nearby sites that are not to be missed include the ancient city of Ephesus. Ephesus is a marvellous preserved city that was important in the early development of Christianity. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was considered one of the Great Wonders of the Ancient World. If you looking to do some serious shopping, head to Ismir town and check out the markets, then stop for a long leisurely lunch.

Foca Town
Although there is not a great deal to do in Foca but relax and recuperate on the beach, the town itself is rich in history. Foca is a fishing town that has played a role throughout the diverse history of Turkey, from Alexander the Great to the Ottoman era. This legacy is left behind in the form of the many ancient building, tombs and castles dotting the region - often with a distinctly Islamic style. Visit the 4th Century ‘Devil’s Baths' tomb, explore the beautiful Bes Kapilar Castle and experience the Ottoman Turkish Baths in the Ataturk district.
