Fira – Unique sparkling white island capital in astonishing location
Fira (sometimes spelt Thira) is the capital of Santorini and must rate as one of the most extraordinary capitals of the world. There are no cars in the town. Fira is so steep it can only be reached from the port on foot, by mule or by cable car. Around 800 broad steps steeply wind up from the port to the town in zigzags. Walking up is not recommended!.
