Eurostar has warned passengers of likely disruption next Tuesday between the UK and Brussels. A threat of industrial action from Belgian railway staff is currently at hand and a 24 hour strike is due commence at 22.00 on Monday.
A Eurostar statement confirmed that industrial action on May 20th was a "strong probability":
“If the planned action does take place, we expect that Brussels Midi station and the rest of the Belgian rail network will be closed. This means there would be no rail services operating between Lille and Brussels Midi station. There would also be no high-speed onward rail connections on Thalys or ICE, from Brussels to destinations in France, the Netherlands and Germany.”
Eurostar is advising all travellers planning to travel on Tuesday to change their plans, swap dates, or obtain refunds. Eurostar services are expected to resume immediately after the strike, starting with the 19:34 (train 9158) service from London. However, this service is expected to be in high demand.
