Thursday, 20 September 2007

eurostar city breaksEurostar has again set another record for train travel during its inaugural High Speed 1 journey between Brussels and London St Pancras.

The journey, which broke the two-hour barrier with speeds in excess of 186mph, follows the record for the Paris to London St Pancras which was set on 4 September at two hours, three minutes and 39 seconds. The 232-mile journey from Brussels Midi station to St Pancras took one hour, 43 minutes, shaving 20 minutes off the time it currently takes to get to Waterloo.

Eurostar Chief Executive Richard Brown confirmed that the journey marks the latest changes to Eurostar's services: "Today's journey puts London to Brussels firmly within the two-hour club.”

The new High Speed 1 route will be used for all Eurostar breaks to France and Belgium from 14th November. Eurostar hopes to attract more travellers away from cheap flights offered at regional airports by emphasising the speed, convenience and environmentally friendly credentials of its service.
