Other places to visit include Bologna, the capital of the region of Emilia-Romagna, a lively cultural city home to impressive architecture, gardens and parks and great shopping and dining, Ravenna, the charming UNESCO World Heritage city known as 'the city of mosaics', and Ferrara, a historic riverside city. Parma and Modena in the region of Emilia-Romagna are well-known for their local produce (cheese, ham and balsamic vinegar), and both are affluent towns with interesting centres. Also in the very south of the region of Emilia-Romagna is the independant republic of Sam Marino, the third smallest country in Europe, famous for its' Formula One Grand Prix circuit.
