El Sauzal - sip wine and enjoy great views of Mount Teide
El Sauzal is just along the coast from attractive tourist hub, Puerto de la Cruz, with is palm fringed beach and bustling centre of bars and restaurants. Although popular with tourists, Puerto de la Cruz does still offer a sense of genuine Canarian life continuing alongside the holiday fun. From El Sauzal it is also easy to reach the other beaches Playa do los Troches, and Playa de San Roque in the quieter north of Tenerife.
Holiday makers seeking more than beach relaxation will enjoy being based within easy reach of lively university town La Laguna (10 km east) and historic La Orotava (10 km south) both full of interesting colonial architecture and in La Orotava’s case, quaint cobbled streets and colourful plazas.
Right on El Sauzal’s doorstep is Casa del Vino la Baranda, a fascinating wine museum and visitor centre, housed in a restored hacienda. It’s a showcase in elegant surroundings, for over 150 wines of Tenerife, with a good restaurant attached. Eat and sip wine on the sun terrace and you might catch sight of Mount Teide in the distance - the highest mountain in all Spain.

El Sauzal - a pleasant town to explore
