Durban, in the KwaZulu-Natal province on the east coast of South Africa, is a major tourist destination, with a rich history and an eclectic mix of cultures. Offering something for everyone, Durban has a wealth of opportunities for shopping, dining, nightlife, and visiting galleries and museums, as well as relaxing on the beaches and touring the townships and wilderness inland. The third biggest city in South Africa, Durban is a thriving business centre, and Africas' busiest port.

With a superb climate and boasting long golden stretches of sand and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Durban offers holiday-makers an idyllic beach destination. The central beach area, the 'Golden Mile', stretches for 6km along the coast, and is lined with luxury hotels offering great views out to the sea and backed by a wide bustling promenade. Durban is known as one of the best places in South Africa for surfing, and a wide variety of activities are available on the beach-front, such as sailing, scuba-diving and fishing. As befits a city of Durbans' size, there is plenty of accommodation suiting all budgets, and getting around the city is no problem, due to the abundance of taxis and tuk-tuks available. Attractions in the city of Durban include Ushaka Marine World, the largest aquarium in the world, the Botanical Gardens, the Natural Science Museum and the KwaMuhle Museum, illustrating black South Africans' struggle for freedom. Durban has a strong Asian influence, being home to the largest Indian community outside of India itself, and the Grey Street community, with its' spice market and Juma Musjid Mosque, is an interesting place to visit.

The thriving city of Durban offers visitors an enticing mix of culture and influences - streets lined with elegant Victorian architecture, numerous Indian restaurants offering spicy delicacies, and traditional Zulu crafts sold in the markets. Wilsons' Wharf on the busy sea-front is a great place to try out the cities' great restaurants, whilst enjoying the harbour views, and throughout Durban there are wonderful restaurants, cafes and bars to discover. Away from the city of Durban, the region of KwaZulu-Natal has much for the visitor to explore, including tours of the townships, the Tembe Elephant Park, the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, the Drakensberg Mountains and the numerous blue flag beaches and charming resorts of the coastline, such as Margate and Ramsgate.
