Beach Holidays in Stunningly Natural Surroundings Cuba boasts simply fantastic Caribbean beaches, whether you are in Cayo Coco, Guardalavaca, the unspoilt coast around Holguin, or countless other resorts, your beach relaxation can be enhanced with a fantastic variety of fauna and marine life, exquisite scenery, and of course a laid-back and welcoming Caribbean atmosphere. Many beach resorts in Cuba have a strong emphasis on eco-tourism.
Retrace the Footsteps of Great Figures in History If you’re a fan of Hemmingway, a great thing to do while in Cuba is to drink a cool mojito in his old haunt, the Bodeguita del Medio in Havana, one of Cuba‘s most celebrated restaurants. It is famous for this rum-based cocktail and has attracted generations of artists and writers. Or you could stop for a beer at Castillo de Farnes, also in Havana, where Ché Guevara and Castro famously toasted the success of the Revolution in 1953.
Rolling Cigars is a Must On your visit to this remarkable island why not try your hand at rolling cigars at one of Cuba's tobacco factories? In Havana the ideal venue for this is the Real Fábrica de Tabacos Partagás, but there are many other options in Pinar del Río and Trinidad, for example.
Take a Walking Tour in Beautiful Old Havana Havana has so much to offer sightseers that a daytime guided walk is a great thing to do. Typically these introduce visitors to the Museum of the Revolution, the excellent Fine Arts Gallery, Havana Cathedral and the Havana Club Rum Museum. The ideal way to end the day would be eat, drink and party at the Tropicana or Parisien Cabaret - world renowned Cuban night spots.
Visit Santiago de Cuba and Hike the Sierra Maestra At Cuba’s second largest city you will find fascinating Old Santiago, long admired for its architectural splendour and shady parks. Don’t miss the Moncada Barracks where in 1953 a group led by Fidel Castro attacked the barracks in an attempt to steal weapons and launch the revolution. From Santiago de Cuba you’re within easy reach of the surrounding mountains of the Sierra Maestra, ideal for hiking and climbing. The Sierra Maestra is home to Cuba’s highest mountain Pico Turquino.
Master Scuba Diving in Warm Caribbean Waters Cuban diving sites offer an outstanding range of coral formations in warm waters along Cuba’s offshore marine platform. Expect to see brightly coloured fish, coral reefs and ancient shipwrecks. The sea here is at an average temperature of over 24 degrees all year round, with mild tides and no strong currents, so Cuba is ideal for newcomers to scuba diving. There are also some more challenging dives for experienced divers. Santa Lucia and Holguin are just two of the resorts in Cuba that offer excellent scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities.
