Croatia weather - experience the welcoming warmth of the Dalmation Coast
Warm, sunny weather is one of the prime reasons for people to book holidays in Croatia, the south eastern European country which enjoys the beautiful coastline of the Adriatic Sea. Holidays in Croatia focus on the southern Dalmation Coast with its glistening bays studded with offshore islands. Here, visitors will find a Mediterranean-style climate characterised by mild winters and warm sunny summers. Expect temperatures of 26 to 29 degrees Celsius in July and August, and winter temperatures ranging from 9 to 18C. This stretch of Croatia’s coast is backed by the high peaks of the Dinaric Alps, which rise to 1,800 metres, and where winter rainfall can be particularly heavy. Picture-perfect snow-capped mountain tips are the norm for much of the year.

Weather in Croatia - hot days and mild nights in summer
Down on Croatia’s Dalmation Coast, sunshine averages around four hours a day in winter and from ten to twelve hours a day in summer. During extremely hot days in June to August, the temperature may reach 29-30 C in the coastal resorts of Croatia, which include Mljet, Split, Trogir and Cavtat. Night-time temperatures during these months will drop to around 20-23 C. The coldest months of the year on average are January and February, and the rainiest months are generally November and December, with the summer months being fairly dry.

Cooler weather in inland Croatia
The inland areas of Croatia, including the city of Zagreb, are comfortably cooler during the summer months. The further from the Adriatic you go inland, you will find the tougher Croatia’s weather conditions become. The winter months are not only the wettest of the year, but the night-time temperatures will regularly drop to below freezing. In Croatia’s high, hilly inland regions the ground can be snow-covered for most of the winter. In winter the north of Croatia also experiences cold blasts blowing down from central and eastern Europe. This wind, known as the bora, can last for several days at a time.
