Golf Although many sports are catered for this area has become known as the Costa del Golf. There are around 50 top-class courses in the Costa del Sol, the highest concentration in continental Europe. Facilities exist for golfers of all levels with well-tended courses in wonderful settings, including courses designed by some of the all-time greats such as Seve Ballesteros, Gary Player and Tony Jacklin.
Water sports With over 100 miles of coastline, warm water and more than 300 days of sun each year, the Costa del Sol is perfect for water sports enthusiasts. Beaches are well maintained and safe and visitors can book water-skiing or scuba diving lessons, hire equipment or just buy a snorkel and mask almost anywhere along the coast.
Horse riding Good horsemanship is much appreciated here and Andalusian horses are world-famous. Hiring a horse or taking part in a ride is an excellent way to get a feel for the countryside and the mountains offer spectacular views.
Amusement Parks and Zoos The Tivoli World Amusement Park offers both rides and shows including Flamenco and Wild West displays. Next door is the Benalmadena Cable car that runs to the summit of Monte Calamorro, giving views over the Costa del Sol, Sierra Nevada, Gibraltar and the North African coast. Fuengirola Zoo has been modernised and is now visitor- and animal-friendly. There’s also a Sea Life Centre, a crocodile park, and Dolphin World along the coast in Gibraltar.
Festivals Almost every community has a festival - there are over 3,000 fiestas in the region every year and they include religious festivals, dance festivals, wine festivals, food fairs, bullfighting fiestas and mock battles.
Nature Parks The Sierra de Grazalema Nature Park, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, features caves, grottoes and spectacular gorges, and is home to tawny vultures, eagles and goshawks. The Los Alcornocales Nature Park includes one of the largest cork oak forests in the world.
