Weather on the Costa Brava
Located on the northeastern coast of Spain just south of the Pyranees, the Costa Brava, or 'Wild Coast', remains extremely popular with British holidaymakers, most of whom are attracted by the regions' wonderful climate. The Costa Brava is one of the coolest stretches of Spanish coastline but boasts a pleasant Mediterranean climate, with long hot summers and relatively short mild winters. Although the Costa Brava weather is a little less reliable and not quite as sunny as some of the other Costas further south, the region still offers an excellent year-round destination.
Costa Brava weather - Plenty of sunshine and high temperatures during the summer months
The average temperature on the Costa Brava hovers around 22C, with temperatures in the summer months often reaching 30C and the region often receiving as much as 12 hours of sunshine a day. The months of July and August are peak season, and the hot humid weather during this time is often tempered by coastal winds. May and June is a great time to visit, with temperatures of 23C, and the more unpredictable weather results in fewer crowds. Spring and autumn is the wettest time, although rainfall on the Costa Brava is fairly moderate, with the area receiving about 600mm per year. The autumns are warm, seeing temperatures between 21- 24C, with October being the wettest month. During the winter, the sun still shines an average of 6 hours a day, although the temperatures drop to 16C, resulting in crisp, bright days.
Weather on the Costa Brava - Moderate climate with pleasant mild winters
With the regions' close proximity to the mountains, the weather in the Costa Brava can be changeable, and sees some strong winds, most noticeably the Tramonata, which blows from behind the mountains, helping to keep the temperatures down in the summer, and bringing a chill during the winter. The sunshine and moderate temperatures mean that the Costa Brava is an ideal golfing destination, with its many courses attracting players all year round.
