Corsica weather - Long sunny Mediterranean season The weather in Corsica beach resorts is typically Mediterranean. However, a general overview of Corsica weather must take into account wide variations due to mountains that rise to 9000 feet. Predicting weather in the Corsican interior is further complicated by small regional microclimates. Most visitors to Corsica will be interested in the weather on the Corsican coast, where the climate is much warmer. Corsica is consistently one of the sunniest parts of France, with a summer average of 10 hours of sunshine and plenty of sunny days from April onwards. A long sunny beach season lasts from the first serious swimming weather in May to the end of October, with average Corsica temperatures rising from around 20º in May to 27º in July and August. The hottest days can go well over 30º. May to September are the driest months in Corsica but the mountains create short sharp thunderstorms. Pleasantly cooling coastal breezes are ideal for sailing and windsurfing in Corsica. Refreshing Corsica mountain excursions make an idyllic break on the hottest days on the beach.
Corsica weather - Beautifully colourful spring and autumn sunshine If you can visit Corsica outside the peak season you can enjoy delightful weather and see beautiful towns like Bonifacio and Algajola at their atmospheric best: long sunny days and gorgeous wild flowers in May and June, and a deliciously relaxed atmosphere in September and October.
Corsica weather for walking - Idyllic summers Mountain weather in Corsica is of special interest for visitors planning to enjoy the famous Corsica long-distance paths. The lower valleys and mountains enjoy wonderful Mediterranean weather for much of the year. The really high mountains have weather similar to the Alps. Summer mountain weather is generally a delight but you should never underestimate the mountains. The highest parts of the GR20 path may not be walkable until July! The usual rules and precautions for Alpine walking apply. Remember the weather can change very rapidly at any time of year. Winters are very cold inland, with plenty of snow on the mountains for modest skiing in Corsica.
