Beach
The beach is the main attraction at Cofresi, with most visitors content to just sit and relax on the peaceful sands, which boasts a scenic mountain backdrop. There are convenient amenities here including sun beds and chairs, and thatched huts selling food, drinks, and a variety of local goods.
Scuba Diving
A choice of dive shops in Cofresi take all levels of enthusiasts out to sites off the north coast, and the coral reef, underwater caves and shipwrecks that lie beneath. Sosua, just east of Puerta Plata, is one of the most popular sites and easily reached from Cofresi.
Water Sports
The clear, warm waters create ideal conditions for all types of water sports, with snorkelling, boogie board rental and kayaking available and deep sea fishing trips departing along the east coast.
Sports
Hotels in Cofresi offer tennis courses, fitness centres, exercise classes and volleyball, and there is a choice of courses for golfers, and horse riding for all levels of riders. White-water rafting trips are also available from the resort.
Biking & Jeeps
Both mountain bikes and scooters are available for rent, and offer a great way to get around Cofresi, and explore the surrounding area. There are numerous tracks and trails to follow, allowing riders to take in breathtaking scenery and a variety of tropical flora and fauna. Jeep safaris tours are also popular.
Ocean World Adventure Park
Cofresi is home to the Ocean World Adventure Park, boasting the largest dolphin lagoon in the Caribbean, as well as sharks, sea lions and variety of marine life and tropical birds. There's also a Dolphin Encounter programme and a shark interaction pool.
Island Boat Trips
Island tours depart to Mona or Desecheo Island, and there are jungle river tours at Cabarete. Glass-bottomed boat trips around the bay depart from Sousa, and there are seasonal whale-watching trips leaving from Samana Bay.
Day Trips
Head to the city of Puerto Plata for a taste of Dominican Republic culture, take a cable-car ride up to Mount Isabel or visit traditional mountain towns such as Jarabacoa and Constanza. The city of Santa Domingo is a haven for shoppers, with a big collection of malls and speciality shops.
