On the outskirts of Cattolica is ‘Le Navi’, a theme park dedicated to all things associated with the sea, where you and your family can ‘time travel’ to the origins of the oceans. For music fans Cattolica hosts an annual month-long series of classical concerts called the Sagra Musicale Malatestiana in late August.Water sports enthusiasts can partake in windsurfing, sailing and deep sea fishing from Cattolica, while for golfers, the Riviera Golf Club is 3 kilometres from town. Cattolica boasts a wide range of hotels many of which offer private swimming pools, health clubs and activities for children. Watch out for fish specialities on the restaurant menus, including local favourite fish broth, and be sure to try ‘miacetto’, a traditional dessert of Turkish and Greek influence eaten in Cattolica, whose recipe is top secret. Northern Italy’s premier holiday resort, Rimini is just 10 km to the north of Cattolica, and well worth visiting for its beach, shops and world famous nightlife.
