The beaches in Castelo are perfect if you like sunny stretches of sand lapped by the warm ocean. You can also explore the little grottos and caves that the area is famous for. If you fancy something busier then head to nearby Albufeira with its huge white sand beaches and underwater caves that are popular with divers and snorkellers.

The restaurants in Castelo are popular with holiday makers looking to sample traditional Portuguese or African dishes. Of course there are international dishes available from the many first class restaurants and small pavement cafes. For magnificent views and excellent food try the ruined castle that has been converted into an excellent restaurant.

The beaches at Castelo, Albufeira and Sao Rafael are very popular with jet-skiers, windsurfers, divers and snorkellers. There are many underwater caves and grottos for scuba divers to explore in this area of the Algarve.

The nightlife on a holiday in Castelo can be as low key or a lively as you like. You can take your pick from drinks on quiet local bars to the vibrant atmosphere of nightclubs, jazz bars and discos at nearby Albufeira. The bars and clubs become the social focus once night falls and dancing can continue until 4am if you can handle the pace.
Children’s Attractions
Although the children may simply enjoy spending hours exploring the coves and bays, there are many water parks and zoos in the Castelo area. Choose from Krazy World with its alligators and snake pits to Zoo Marine with its dolphins, sea lions and sharks. Head to Aqualand for some of the most thrilling water rides in Europe’s biggest open air water park. Not forgetting the many ancient forts and castles in the area that will be of interest to kids and adults alike.
