Castelo, situated just 8km west of Albufeira, is a peaceful resort and a popular choice for a quiet beach holiday, with some stunning coastal walks for those looking to explore the beautiful Algarve scenery. Home to some comfortable hotels and private villas, Castelo takes its’ name from an old ruined castle sitting on the headland, now converted to a restaurant. Castelo is a fairly isolated resort, and regarded as one of the best cove beaches in the area. Comprised of a series of small cove beaches, the small stretches of fine sand are accessed by a short path, shelving gently into the sea and protected by some stunning cliffs. Children will delight in exploring Castelo beach, with its’ amazing odd-shaped rock formations, numerous blowholes and grottoes, and there is plenty of shade and a beach bar for much-needed refreshment. The cliffs along the coast at Castelo provide a wealth of scenic walks and hikes, heading west in the direction of Evista, or east towards Coelha.
