Weather in Canico - Sunny skies throughout the year
Situated on the sun drenched island of Madeira, the village of Canico enjoys an enviable sub tropical climate ensuring bright sunshine all year round and high season temperatures that are rarely oppressive to the average sun worshipper. Weather in Canico is extremely settled with very low annual rainfall and pleasantly mild winter temperatures. Due to warm ocean currents and the influence of the North East trade winds, the weather in Madeira is rarely extreme and Canico is a popular destination all year round. The only real likelihood of wet weather is between the months of December and March and even then mild sunshine prevails for most of the time. Madeira's mounatinous interior offers protection from the coolest weather fronts and as a result, Canico enjoys the best of Madeira weather.
Canico Weather - Hot sunshine and cool breezes
Summers in Canico are predictably hot and sunny with rarely a cloud in the sky. In fact during the height of this fine weather in July and August, barely a single drop of rain will fall. Temperatures however are still manageable at around 24c. This should guarantee at least 9 hours of daily sunshine. Isolated heat waves have been known to occur when baking hot temperatures of over 35c are not uncommon. This is due to hot air 'Leste' winds arriving from North Africa. Canico's slightly exposed location helps counter this as it receives cooling sea breezes. Canico weather remains warm and sunny into autumn with an increase in the chances of rain. Temperatures stay firmly above 20c until late November when the climate becomes more unsettled and may even result in strong winds and brief thunderstorms.
Weather in Canico - Enjoy the mild winter sun
The month of December brings the heaviest rainfall in Canico that should do little to disrupt a winter sunshine holiday. Even at its heaviest Canico rainfall should not occur on more than half a dozen occasions during the month and rarely lasts for long. For the most part, winter sunshine prevails with mild temperatures and clear blue skies. It is no surprise that so many people look to escape the dreary UK winter for a break in sunny Madeira at this time. Visitors can enjoy very commendable daytime temperatures of 20c with warm sea temperatures that remain pleasant and inviting. Between 5-6 hours of sunshine each day is normal and evenings are comfortable although Canico weather can see blustery winds, especially after dark in early March.
