Campania Region Things to do

things to do in campania

Islands and beaches
The Campania coastline contains some of the most picturesque and exclusive resorts in Europe such as Sorrento, Amalfi and the island of Capri. High rugged cliffs give way to intimate coves and golden sandy beaches perfect for tranquil summer days. Azure warm waters compliment the stunning scenery and ensure a pleasurable and relaxing beach holiday.

Food and wine
As the birthplace of pizza and a rich heritage of wine making, the region of Campania is a haven for food lovers and many guided gastronomic tours are available. Visit the vineyards of Avellino and Benevento, famous for full bodied red wines, tour a cheese museum or attend a Neapolitan cooking master class held at many countryside hotels in the area. Some of Europe's finest Italian restaurants are found along the Amalfi coast and a visit is must for all serious gourmets.

Naples
The vibrant, noisy city of Naples gives the visitor an authentic glimpse of modern Neapolitan life yet retains a traditional atmosphere and has a surprising range of historic buildings and monuments to admire. Explore castles, gothic churches and museums, all easily accessible on foot or the charming cobbled streets of Spaccanapoli for shopping and lunch. Utterly unique, Naples and its people are like nowhere else in Italy and a visit provides an intriguing day trip with much to see and do.

Cycling
There is no finer way to explore the countryside of Campania than by bicycle and the region has some of the most picturesque - and challenging - cycling routes in Italy. The Vallo Di Diano national park has trails through pine forests, mountains and passing Neolithic caves. Group cycling tours are extremely popular and cover the entire region and cycling here is immensely rewarding, offering spectacular natural scenery.

Pompeii
The world heritage site of Pompeii receives over 2 million visits each year and is clearly Italy's most popular and evocative tourist attraction. It paints a vivid picture of life in Roman times and contains incredibly well preserved artefacts and buildings. Levelled by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD, Pompeii is an archaeologist's dream and the one of the world's most important historical legacies. This is a day trip that will educate and inspire and a memorable experience for all.

Thermal Spas
Dating back to Roman times, the offshore island of Ischia has long been a haven for thermal spa treatments. You can indulge in thermal mud baths, massage and hydrotherapy at one of several hotel spas and reap the benefits of a well deserved day of luxury. The island also boasts an unique natural lagoon of thermal mineral rich sea water.
