Located on the rocky south-west coast of Madeira, Calheta is a quiet and peaceful beach resort set amongst lush vegetation. The town enjoys a mild subtropical climate, and boasts the most hours of sunshine on the whole of Madeira. The area is the most fertile on the island, and remains an important agricultural centre, producing sugarcane and bananas. Calheta enjoys year-round good weather, with an average annual temperature of 18C.
