Cabo de Gata Holidays – A rare stretch of protected unspoilt Mediterranean coast
Cabo de Gata holidays offer one of the few remaining unspoilt stretches of Mediterranean coastline. Holidays in Cabo de Gata are based in and around the village of Cabo de Gata and the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park: a 20 mile stretch of protected coastline in the south east corner of Spain, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1997. Holidays in Cabo de Gata feature a unique volcanic desert landscape with dramatic cliffs, brilliant light, extraordinary sandy beaches and coves, and an astonishingly blue sea. Cabo de Gata holidays are blessed with the sunniest and driest climate in Spain. Cabo de Gata beaches enjoy high temperatures and warm seas well outside the usual summer season and attract sunbathers from April to November.

Cabo de Gata beach holidays – A paradise for serious sunbathing
Holidays in Cabo de Gata very much centre on the splendid Cabo de Gata beaches which attract serious sunbathers for most of the year. Most Cabo de Gata beaches are a mix of long expanses of pale sand, and small intimate coves. Cabo de Gata beaches are backed by volcanic cliffs, sand dunes and protected salt flats. Cabo de Gata holidays are popular with walkers and mountain bikers attracted by excellent trails along the cliffs and in the Sierra de Cabo de Gata. The area’s protected waters offer excellent opportunities for underwater fishing, snorkelling and scuba diving, along with watersports like sailing and windsurfing. Holidays in Cabo de Gata also attract birdwatchers. The inland salt flats and marshes are popular with migrating birds and resident pink flamingos, particularly around Laguna de Rosa.

Cabo de Gata holidays – Explore an extraordinary coastline and desert interior
Holidays in the Cabo de Gata region offer several contrasting resorts. Agua Amarga beach is attractive and Carboneras features the extraordinary Playa de los Muertos beach. Cabo de Gata holidays should include visits to the fishing villages of San Miguel, Las Negras and La Isleta del Moro, the long beach at Los Escullos, and the popular family resort of San Jose with its attractive harbour and waterfront restaurants. Other worthwhile Cabo de Gata holiday excursions include the white village of Nijar, the hill town of  Mojacar, the lively resort of Roquetas de Mar and the city of Almeria with its cathedral and fortress. Holidays in Cabo de Gata are not complete without a trip inland: a weird lunar landscape of deserts and arid mountains, the setting of many spaghetti westerns, and home to the frankly bizarre cowboy theme park “Mini Hollywood”.
