Brena Baja Things To Do

things to do in Brena Baja
Beach
The Blue Flag beach at Playa de los Cancajos, one of the largest resorts on the island of La Palma, is located close by and remains a major attraction for visitors to Brena Baja. With its sheltered bays and clear warm waters, the black sand beach is popular with sun seekers and water sports enthusiasts alike.

Water Sports
With excellent visibility thanks to the crystal-clear seas, and a rocky coastline home to underwater coves, conditions are some of the best on the island for both snorkelling and scuba diving, and there are spectacular off-shore dive sites to visit in and around the waters of Los Cancajos. Windsurfing and windsurfing are also available from the beach.

Boat Trips
Whale and dolphin-watching trips are popular on the island, with most trips departing from Tazacorte Harbour on the west coast, and island tours and deep-sea fishing trips also available.

Sports
Paragliding is a popular sport for visitors to Brena Baja as the climate is ideal and the mountainous scenery is spectacular when viewed from above. Adventurous visitors can also try quad-biking, and mountain biking along the deserted roads and many forests trails is a popular activity. The varied accommodation options have swimming pools, gyms and tennis courts.

Walking & Hiking
The area is popular with walkers and hikers, and the verdant hillsides and stark volcanic mountains offer the perfect terrain for serious walkers, with more casual ramblers able to enjoy the scenic trails and coastal tracks which boast stunning views out across the sea. La Caldera National Park, home to the world's largest volcanic crater, is a haven for trekkers, and boasts a lush landscape and rugged mountains.

Horse Riding
Local schools in the area offer riding lessons and treks, and as the island's terrain is ideal for exploring on horseback, there are trails through the lush green forests and hillsides and along the coastal paths, suiting both beginners and experienced riders.

Natural Parks
Brena Baja is a haven for nature-lovers, botanists and bird-watchers looking to experience the extreme beauty of the island. Other natural parks on the island include Maroparque and El Jardin de los Aves, with their largely endemic vegetation and spectacular landscapes, and Los Tilos, a Biosphere Reserve Research Centre.

Days Out
The capital of La Palma, Santa Cruz, is just a few minute's drive and offers an insight into the history and culture of the island, with the streets of this colonial town displaying a bustling city scene with great shopping and dining. Or visit Mazo and tour the prehistoric caves before picking up some hand-made cigars, known as 'puros'.
